Horse Love

Katie and the Wild Mustang

Katie going back to France, to bring her brilliant Thoroughbred, Romeo home from the dangers of Paris. But first, she must stay for at least a month to train a wild mustang, Cactus at Bonjour Becoup La Stables. If she successes, she may bring Romeo back to England but if she fails, Romeo will have to stay in Paris. Also, nasty Janine Miller is behind the mess of Cactus's needle injection.

Meanwhile, Katie finds out that Cactus is in quite a danger from Janine's silly plot. Could she save Cactus in time?

Chapter 1

Romeo

I've had Romeo for at least two years in England. But one year ago, he did a dangerous buck and had hurt my mum's friend, Casey so he was transported to Paris and kept in Bonjour Becoup La Stables in France. It was hard imaging, my own horse all over the other side of the world. France has had lots of earthquakes and other dangers lately. Already, I heard the owner of that stable; Lewis said that two of the horses had had a fatal injury. But luckily, that stable in France has an owner that I know really well. I still miss Romeo but there is some good news- By tomorrow, I am going to France biplane to stay at Bonjour Becoup La Stables for a month to bring Romeo home. I'd be staying at Fiargos' stables home along with his family, his two snotty sisters; Janine and Kicky and his uncle. "Katie! Have you got your suitcases?" mum called. Yay! We are going to be off to the airport- Paris (and Romeo), here I come!

"Hey, Fiargo! Hi, Lewis!" I waved to them. Janine gave me a weird look when we got in the car to the Bonjour Becoup La Stables. "Are you here to take Romeo back?" she asked suspiciously. Janine was the least favorite person of mine here. Luckily, Fiargo interrupted. "Hey, Katie so you're back to see Romeo? Well, he has been a sweetie, hot-headed sometimes," he chuckled. Lewis called from the driver's seat that Romeo had been brave in the stables. No wonder why he was called Romeo! I looked out of the car window.it was a fresh sunny afternoon, beats rain back in England! Once we got to the stables, Lewis told me where I'll sleep, the kitchen and the lounge. Stuff like that. Then, we went to the riding area. It took ages to find my jodhpurs. It was the same as the riding arena in Willow Halls Stables. "Come on, let's go to the stables," said Kicky. Kicky is twenty years old and my riding instructor in France and she is a lot nicer than Janine. She pulled me by hand and I squealed. I couldn't wait to see Romeo. Romeo was there, in his stall, still looking fierce. His eyes were dark; his bay coat was still the same. I patted his forehead which had an upside down love heart. He nickered. Kicky smiled and pushed her long blond hair which was in a plait back. "He is still the same, huh Katie?" asked Kicky, still having that Yorkshire accent. I nodded and said, "How about going for a ride? It has been a while we haven't seen eachother. I bet he misses those trail rides." Kicky shrugged and went to a strawberry roan's stall. "This is horse is called Mimi. He is a stiff one, poor thing. Oh and Katie, look-uh. We need to talk. You me and Fiargo. It's about Romeo and you taking him home." Indicated Kicky, grooming Mimi with a curry comb. I flinched and stroked Mimi softly. "What do you mean?" I asked, my voice starting to rise. I can feel the sweat from inside my jodhpurs. Yes, what did she mean? I am, and I will be taking Romeo home. Soon, Fiargo came storming in the stables, looking tired. He looked at me and did a lopsided smile. "Hey there, Katie, Kicky." He said and greeted me. Kicky gave him a glance and straight away, he knew what this meant. His cute smile disappeared. "Oh yeah." He said.

I glared at both of them. "What do you mean that you have something to talk about Romeo? I am bringing him home am I?" I asked hurriedly. Kicky sighed and tacked up Mimi. "Look, Katie. You will be taking Romeo home unless…" Kicky started and stared at Fiargo. I was getting impatient. "What?" I asked. Fiargo took a big breath and said, "We have found a wild mustang last week. It is wild. The police said we may take care of it unless someone trains it but we don't have enough time and no one in this village wants a wild mustang. So, um, if you want to take Romeo home you have to master how to take care of Cactus, the wild mustang,"

Chapter 2

I am shocked. I am surprised. I am tired. A mustang? Honestly, there is no way am I going to train some wild horse. No way. Not Katie. Katie does not train dangerous things. Uh-uh. Not me. No way. I was lying on my bed, thinking. Fiargo and Kicky begged me to do it. How can I? Mother always told me to stay away to what's dangerous and wild. That is right, isn't it? What if I get kicked or bucked off? How can I train a stupid mustang? Or better known, Dangerous Horse. Cactus was the wild mustang's name, obviously. Fiargo says I can train it better so I can take Romeo home. My head clicked. If I can handle this mustang, I can take Romeo home. Suddenly I noticed something; I really really wanted to take Romeo home. Someone knocked on my bedroom door. It was Lewis. He came in and said, "You should be going to bed now, chick. Tomorrow, your training with that wild mustang will begin," I gutted and gulped as he left and turned off the lights. I lied in the dark, thinking. When I finally drift up to sleep, listening to the horses snort in the stable next door I dreamt of me, not caring about Cactus and Romeo can't go home with me so I fight. I fight to bring him home but I was caught by the police and they arrested me. Kicky, Fiargo and Lewis were so disappointed in that nightmare. I woke up with a gasp, beads of sweat drip from my forehead. This was it. I have made my final decision. I am training Cactus, the wild mustang.

Chapter 4

"So this is Cactus?"

"Yep. You'll get to know him. He is a bad-tempered mustang but I'm sure you'll get the hang of it."

I couldn't believe it. That mustang looked strong, fierce and ready to fight. He was black and his eyes seem cold. He looked so… well…mad. "So this is the horse I'll have to be training?" I asked. This seemed crazy. Crazy and crazy. How could I train-then I remembered the promise-if I don't train Cactus I'll have to leave Romeo here and well, all will be bad. So I guess I better get him up training. "There's his tack," said Fiargo pointing to the tack. I took the silver bridle slowly, trying to get my fingers moving but I just couldn't. It took a while. Holding the bridle in my cold hands was icky. Fiargo nodded at me and stepped back. "Be careful, though," he said. "We don't want you to end up in Paris's Royal Hospital!" he shook his head. Then, he added, "Opps. I forgot to milk the cows in Chassis Farm. Good luck, Katie." And left the stables. I shrugged and looked straight at Cactus, who looked like he was ready to pounce on me. "Don't even think about it," I warned him, looking stern. I slowly, ever so slowly unlocked the Dutch door when Bam! Cactus kicked the door open with his hooves when I unlocked it. It happened so fast. One minute I was tripping over from Cactus's kick, the next minute I was jammed on the ground. I wasn't hurt or anything. But I got up quickly enough to say, "Cactus, be careful!" but Cactus started bolting and whinnying like thunder. I tried to yell out for help, but Fiargo was going to the farm, Lewis was going to buy some more milk and Kicky went with Lewis the only person was... Janine. What?! Janine would never help me! But I could try screaming. Soon, Cactus was kicking the whole Dutch door apart and he almost trampled on me and I dropped his bridle. I yelled out for Janine. She came to the stables in a flash but it was too late, Cactus was running around the stables, bolting in every direction, disturbing every horse in each stall to whinny. Luckily, Janine soothed him down with a dropped of medicine on his back. I was puzzled. What was that? I kept thinking to myself what had Janine gave him? So, Janine smirked at me and took Cactus back to his stall. "You need to know how to train a mustang or your beloved Romeo will have to stay with me and I will be his permant rider forever." She said smartly. I gasped at her and got up. My jodhpurs were a mess and so was my brown hair. I looked at the small medicine cup in her hand. I eyed it firmly. "What the hell is that?" I asked suspiciously. She shrugged and closed Cactus's Dutch door and said it was none of my business. And I was furious. I kicked a bucket next to me madly. When were Fiargo and Lewis going to come home? Or even better, Kicky. I needed Kicky to defend Janine about the stuff she said about Romeo. But is it true? If I fail to train Cactus, will Janine be his owner forever? I shivered and looked at Janine with a frown. "You-"

"Romeo!"

"What?"

"Romeo is out in the fields! Get him!"

Fiargo and Kicky and Lewis have come home and before I knew it, Romeo was in the field, cantering around madly. I couldn't help it. I got under the field's fence and ran up to Romeo. "No, Katie! It's too dangerous! Get out!" Kicky's voice started to fear me. "Romeo, Romeo! Come back!" I yelled after him. Suddenly, he stopped in the middle of the field and gazed over at me. He recognized my voice and look and trotted toward me. I gave a sigh of relief.

Chapter 5

I tacked Romeo up for a trail ride with Kicky (Who was riding Mimi.) and Fiargo (Who was riding Jasean.). We all wondered why Romeo was acting round so madly. I kicked Romeo gently at his sides. "No, it can't be whether or not, something's gone really strange. Romeo isn't a mustang like Cactus and he has never been this crazy before," added Kicky, who was on Mimi. We steered up to a mountain. I stopped Romeo. I have never climbed up a mountain before but really wanted to do it. "Maybe you shouldn't," suggested Fiargo cautiously. "Maybe Romeo has to calm down." Kicky said the same. I groaned and said, "Don't worry. Mountains aren't harmful. Kicky, can you give Romeo and head start?" I asked eventually. Fiargo and Kicky shook their heads and turned back. I had nothing to do left except to follow them, head to toe.

"Janine, what…how, um, why are you in my room and why are my horse books and my hand-made, 'Romeo and I' book is in your hands?" I asked as I entered my room. Janine was sitting on my bed, looking through my horse books and most importantly, 'Romeo and I' book was in her hands and on her eyes! I snatched it off her. Then placed it carefully back on the shelf. That book had all the adventures of me and Romeo together. Our trail rides, mountain hikes and our best grooming. It wasn't private, but Janine is still not allowed to brag into my room without permission! "What are you doing?" I hissed. She stood up and smiled evilly. "This is not your room, you know. Its guest room and you're from England to take my Romeo home," she says. I gaped at her. What was she talking about? Before I could intrude her to leave, I had my one and only question: "What do you mean your Romeo? He's mine! I bought him as a young pony foal before, you know that from England! Then he got transported to France, here and now you THINK that's your horse? No way! I AM taking him home!" I snapped. She walked to the door and her final sentence was: "You're up for a big surprise, Katie Divine, oh boy are you. Cactus is ready. To make me win Romeo." She chuckled and strolled out.

Chapter 6

When Janine said that, I felt nervous more than ever. What was she doing to Cactus? I had to find out to take MY Romeo back to England. I read the Bonjour Si La daily newspaper after Janine left. It said it looked like a big haze is going to approach next month probably to cause a flood! I needed to find out what that fox person Janine was doing to Cactus. Suddenly, Fiargo knocked on the door and he came in. "Supper's ready, Lewis told me. We have a normal English food, you know. Baked potato and pumpkin squash." He said cheerfully. I eyed him enviously. "Janine is doing something to Romeo. She says it is her op to take Romeo to England. No wonder why she came to my room to read about Romeo! She wanted to know more!" I drained up. I figured all this out about Janine. Fiargo slowly shook his head in an unhappy way about his 'step-cousin.' "Look, Katie. Janine wasn't reading about Romeo because of that." He said. "She read it because she wanted to know more about Thoroughbred's and race-horses. OK?" then he left them room silently. I knew that wasn't true, obviously. I know what Janine was trying to do: steal my horse away from me. I decided to spy on her tonight. I am going to, I thought to myself. I had to. To save Cactus and Romeo.

It was after supper and I was getting into my pj's. Then, I crept downstairs to go to Janine's room. Perfect, the light was on so that means she's doing something. I poked my head through the half open door. There she was, sitting on a chair near her chemist table. She had a chemist table to study all medicines. I got closer than, as quiet as mice, into the room. I almost gave the game away because I almost chocked. She was there, making medicine or was it fixing up boughted medicine? The medicine she'd gave to Cactus the other day! There was another finished medicine next to Cactus's one. I saw the label-it said: ROMEO GETS HYPER. On it. My mind raced. That was the medicine she was going to give Romeo-to steal him away from me. I silently crept back to my room and looked at the time-table. Tomorrow, I start training with Cactus, the wild mustang.

Chapter 7

Whatever was last night gave nothing away. Fiargo and Kicky helped me tack up Cactus for the training and boy, how many times have Cactus bucked! I finally got on his saddle but after three tries of falling off, he finally relaxed. That's when I knew the secret of Cactus: He must try something new a few times till he gets it right. Kicky was leading me into training. She told me lots of things that made me nervous. "Keep your instinct's following? He's a wild horse, remember. Never hesitate. Don't pull the reins too hard. He's a mustang so don't or you will fall and…" she trailed off, leaving me dead seated on Cactus, eyes wild. "O-k-a-y…" I said slowly, pulling the reins a little harder to keep Cactus from moving. He was grunting and snorting that made me wanted to hesitate this dressage training. "First, we'll go through the combo then get straight into the jumps." She checked her list then frowned. "10cm. a little too long and high for a mustang but if you pass this test-you are free to take Romeo home" she said eventually. I wiggled in the saddle. And almost forgot about Janine and her plot, of course. Before, Fiargo told me that a mustang is in the stables, it must learn good manners and good habits. I started the dressage, and Fiargo, Lewis and Janine (surprise, surprise.) were watching carefully. I couldn't help this feeling about Janine and Cactus's anxious grunts when the fence was getting close and closer. I could feel Janine smirking and giggling at me. The fence, the mustang and me, were bad put together. I got dizzy and I felt Cactus get dizzy under me too. What was going on? I didn't know what to do because of that stupid Janine: a) bail out. Janine is preparing something. Or b) do it. I didn't know which but I guess I did b…

Chapter 8

"Are you alright?" Fiargo, Kicky and Lewis were all looking worried. But I was fine. But Cactus was not. I did the jump welly but carelessly. I couldn't feel happier that I passed the test. Lewis called the police that afternoon and said to come over and check on Cactus that they may keep him. I couldn't help but smile. "Thank you for your help," everyone was saying to me. I felt like a hero. Now, I can take Romeo home but…

"She can't take Romeo home! I put a needle injection on Cactus's his neck! He must go hyper! He must!"

I couldn't keep laughing. Janine was giving her plot away! Lewis and Kicky exchanged looks.

"Janine, you're grounded. You did a dangerous thing." Lewis was telling her that night when I was about to leave France. Janine spluttered furiously. I said my good-byes to everyone, especially Kicky. The plane boarded and Romeo was coming home…with me. This time, it was real. This time, it was happening. This time, it was going to be great. Romeo was back home
